Fire Glass
We stock a wide range of Fire Resistant Glass, classified by levels of integrity and insulation to contain the spread of flame, smoke and heat. By using fire glass, contemporary fire door solutions, architects, specifiers and their customers have an extended range of options from which to specify - addressing both protection levels and appearance .
Integrity is described as the ability of glass to contain the spread of flame and smoke and prevents collapse, holes and cracks or sustained flaming on the unexposed side for a set time.
Insulation blocks the passage of radiated heat and surface heat rise to an average of 140 º C for a set time. In stairwells, computer rooms, evacuation routes in large office buildings, hospitals, shopping centres and other heat-sensitive areas, extremely high temperatures transferring through the glass can be just as devastating as the fire itself.

Safety Glass
The term “safety” is applied to glazing used to reduce the risk of an accident due to:
- Impact
- Fracture
- Shattering or
- Fire
Safety glass can be required for both domestic and commercial uses and Fire Glass Direct has a variety of glass which can meet the safety requirements set down by law.
Serious injury can be caused by glass breaking into large, jagged pieces. Building regulations require safety glass to be fitted into glazed doors, side panels and areas below 800mm in all new buildings .
Safety glass is specially made either as laminated glass or toughened glass. When it breaks, it breaks safely and in a way which is unlikely to cause injury.
The use of Safety Glazing is becoming fundamentally more important in the construction industry, and in recognising this trend, Fire Glass Direct supply a wide range of laminated & toughened safety glass conforming to British Standards BS6206 & BS6262.
